Aboriganal Dot Paintings Web Quest Gargoyles Seventh graders will be creating ceramic gargoyles.
A Love of
Monsters: Gargoyles and Architectural Details in NYC Standard 4 Understanding the Cultural Dimensions and Contributions of the Arts. Students will develop an understanding of the personal and cultural forces that shape artistic communication and how the arts in turn shape the diverse cultures of past and present society. Printmaking Eighth grade students will learn about the tradition of printmaking. They will learn about Elizabeth Catlett, a printmaker. Her works contributed to a period known as the Harlem Renaissance. Students will learn the process of linoleum printing and using their own image produce multiple prints. Prints by Elizabeth Catlett Reduction print Standard 2 - Knowing and Using Arts Materials and Resources. Students will be knowledgeable about and make use of the materials and resources available for participation in the arts in various roles. Oaxacan Sculptures Oaxaca is one of Mexico's largest states. This area has a folk art tradition that spans hundreds of years. Oaxacan woodcarvings are not only original but imaginative as well. They are collected throughout the world. Seventh Graders will be developing images that tell a story about their world. They will be learning about contemporary artists who use storytelling themes such as David Stabley. They will be creating a ceramic piece that incorporates their themes. Standard 1- Students will make works of art that explore different kinds of subject matter, topics, themes, and metaphors Pop Art Op Art Roy Lichtenstein Andy Warhol Pop Art.....was a movement based on consumerism in America and Britain. It uses images from popular culture - advertisements, TV, and comic books. Artists used commercial art techniques such as silk screen and industrial materials for their work. Op Art... in the early 1960s, artists began to experiment with optical illusions. They created paintings and sculpture in which lines, shapes, and colors were arranged with perfect precision. Rose Window Seventh graders will be creating their own radial designs and mix paint in a range of shades and tints. Standard 2 - Knowing and Using Arts Materials and Resources. Georgia O'Keeffe is famous for her paintings of flowers that fill the canvas. She found inspiration from nature. She is one of the most famous American painters who was uninfluenced by artists from Europe. She lived into her 90's and continued as an artist throughout her lifetime. Sixth graders will study the work of Georgia O'keeffe and create their own watercolor paintings of flowers. Standard 1- Students will make works of art that explore different kinds of subject matter, topics, themes, and metaphors
